Waking the tiger - peter levine

Peter Levine is the developer of Somatic Experiencing. I came across his book many years ago when I was training to become a therapist. This book had a powerful effect on me and my work within the criminal justice system all dealing with unprocessed trauma.

Waking the Tiger normalises the symptoms of trauma and the steps needed to heal them. Peter Levine does not view post traumatic stress disorder, or trauma as pathology to be managed, suppressed or adjusted, but the result of a natural process gone wrong.

The book introduces different types of traumas and explains how symptoms are physiological as well as psychological. He offers a view of how the body has the ability to naturally heal. The book carefully takes you through case studies and exercises that help you to understand how much energy is produced when trauma is present, if this energy isn't released it becomes trapped causing reoccurring problems.

Waking the Tiger is an excellent resource for those who have been traumatised or know someone who has suffered trauma. This book is all about helping you to find your body’s wisdom in its search for healing.
